What are the Causes of Hair Loss?
There are many myths and fables about why men and women lose their hair. One of the most popular scapegoats has been hats. "I lost my hair because I've worn a hat for as long as I can remember." Unfortunately, it's not true nor is it that easy to place the blame.
Some people lose their hair as a result of stress or an injury. Some because of medication or diet, while many attribute hair loss solely to heredity. Why do some men and women lose their hair as early as their teens and others retain a thick, full head of hair into their 70's and 80's? The gene that controls hair growth has only recently been identified. Unfortunately, science still has not been able to discover the exact cause of hair loss.
Statistical science, however, will confirm that four out of ten men and one out of ten women will have some form of hair loss.
